North Durham asked for input on waste bylaw

Region offering public information sessions

March 12, 2010

NORTH DURHAM -- North Durham residents can learn more this month about a proposed waste management bylaw from the Region.

Public information sessions will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. at Scugog Recreation Complex, 1655 Reach St. in Port Perry, on Wednesday, March 24; Cannington Community Centre, 91 Elliot St. in Cannington, on Thursday, March 25; and Uxpool, 1 Parkside Dr. in Uxbridge, on Wednesday, March 31.

The proposed bylaw will "consolidate and replace" existing rules, including standardizing residential waste collection schedules, according to the Region. Durham also hopes to create guidelines outlining acceptable waste, garbage bag limits, responsibilities of contractors and more.

Copies of the proposed bylaw can be obtained by calling 1-905-668-7711 ext. 3720, toll-free to 1-800-372-1102 or by e-mailing waste@durham.ca. Comments on the proposed regulations must be received by July 5.
