Public must get educated on vaccinations
March 12, 2010
To the Editor:
Thank you for printing Norman Hawley's guest column 'No guarantee vaccinations are safe' (March 5).
This information needs to get out there. Decisions on whether to vaccinate or not need to be based on factual information - not media hype. The current system, steeped in a "just do it" mentality, benefits mainly the big pharmaceuticals and is just wrong.
Mr. Hawley correctly notes history has not proven any big benefits arising from mass vaccination programs - no surprise when the vaccinations are based on a guess of what strains may appear, at a set time, in a vast area, such as a continent.
Thanks again for printing opinions that are relevant to all, and that will hopefully spur people into becoming educated on such important subjects. To vaccinate or not must be an informed decision.
